Oppo- i’ll be attending the IMSA race at LimeRock in three weeks, and need to pick up ear protection before getting there. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’d also like them to pull double duty and be used for pistol/rifle shooting as well if possible.

you wont need it, limerock has strict noise level restrictions. you’ll be fine without. Ive gone to trans am, world chalange, vintage races there, and never had an issue.

I say just enjoy the pure sounds of the race cars, but I can definitely make suggestions for shooting!

Spend the money, usually around $60, for a good set of electronic earmuffs. I don’t have a specific brand recommendation, but any of the ones that reduce the noise from the fire but amplify conversation will be ideal.

Grab a set (or 3) of disposables, with lanyard. Cheap, convenient and effective. All I use.

This is what I use when I go to a race. They seem to maintain their “expandableness” using the same ones multiple times.

Normally, I would agree with you won’t need it. Any other track (I’ve been all over working with MX-5 Cup which is often with IMSA) and the cars are not really that loud. However, Lime Rock has the best corner to feel the power of the cars and blow your eardrums out too. The IMSA series uses the alternate uphill with the chicane. You can stand 10 feet from a prototype that is doing a second gear pull up the hill. It is great!!! I think a few of the disposables will get you by there, the rest of the track you probably won’t need them.

I repeat, go to the uphill and watch for a little while. It is one of the best places to watch these cars in all of the US.
